Sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Kiyomizu-dera temple (清水寺) is one of the famous Buddhist temples in Kyoto. Its made without a single nail and it takes its name from a waterfall which runs off by the nearby hills. The word kiyomizu means clear water, or pure water. Unfortunately this time visiting the temple area I couldn’t see the actual building because it was being refurbished for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

Kiyomizu-dera temple area is also popular place where people rent kimonos or yukatas. The beautiful temple area is a good place to take pictures and experience what it’s like to wear them. I could see foreigners and japanese walking in yukatas taking pictures all around the temple area.

The area was quite crowded overall because it was the weekend but you could still take your time looking around the area in peace. There is only a few streets that lead up to the temple which causes them to be quite crowded all the time.

The buildings were surrounded by the beautiful mountain nature. Places surrounding the main attraction area were much more quiet and you could really enjoy the temple area at it’s summer charm.
